May 11, 20261 min read

Mastercard and Letshego have launched a new debit card in Mozambique aimed at accelerating digital payments and expanding financial inclusion across the country. The partnership gives customers access to Mastercard’s global payment network, enabling safer online transactions, ATM withdrawals, and cashless payments for everyday use.

The launch comes as Mozambique intensifies efforts to modernise its payments ecosystem and reduce cash dependency. For Letshego, the move strengthens its digital finance ambitions, while Mastercard continues expanding its footprint across Africa’s fast growing fintech and mobile money economy.

For Africa’s tech ecosystem, the bigger play is infrastructure. Card issuance, interoperability, and digital payment access are becoming central to financial inclusion strategies as fintechs and financial institutions race to digitise commerce across underserved markets.
